Creating Variant Items
How to create individual variant items in Diinr.
Creating Individual Variant Items
Before you can create variant groups or templates, you need to define the individual variant items themselves. These are the specific options that customers can choose from (e.g., "Extra Cheese", "Small", "Coke").
Steps to Create a Variant Item
- Navigate to the Items section in your dashboard.
- Go to the Variants tab.
- Click the Add Variant Item button.
- A modal will appear where you can enter the details for your new variant item.
Variant Item Details
When creating a variant item, you will typically fill in the following fields:
- Name: This is the display name of the variant item (e.g., "Spicy Mayo", "Large", "Sugar-Free"). This is a required field.
- Description: An optional field to provide more details about the variant item. This can be useful for clarifying what the option entails.
- Price: This is the additional cost associated with selecting this variant. This amount will be added to the base price of the main menu item when this variant is chosen. If there is no additional cost, you can leave this as 0.
- Barcode: An optional field for associating a barcode with the variant item, useful for inventory management or POS scanning.
- Tags: You can assign tags to variant items for better organization and filtering within your system. This helps in categorizing similar variants.
Saving Your Variant Item
After filling in the details, click the Save button. Your new variant item will now be available to be added to variant groups or templates.
Important Considerations:
- Specificity: Ensure the name of your variant item is clear and descriptive. For example, instead of just "Cheese", use "Extra Cheese" or "Vegan Cheese" if different types are available.
- Pricing: Double-check the price. This is a crucial component as it directly affects the final cost of the customer's order.
- Reusability: Think about how this variant item might be reused. A generic "Add Chicken" variant might be useful across multiple dishes, whereas "Extra Pepperoni" is specific to pizza.
